I remember the day, after being challenged for many years by the relentless whisper of my inner critic (“You’re not good enough!”) . . . and the part of me in collusion with my inner saboteur, who tried without success to keep me from my commitment to self-discovery, personal growth and healing . . . when finally I was able to greet the day with joy in my heart and shout out loud “Yes! Today I get to be ME!”
Here’s one of my favorite “remember to be me” quotes:
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.”
--As quoted in The Life and Work of Martha Graham (1991) by Agnes de Mille, p. 264
I will read and reflect on the KNOW quote today as I celebrate the many times I said “YES!” when it may have been easier to block my unique life force energy.
