WITH THE QUESTIONS

BE

I discovered the quote in KNOW almost 40 years ago when I was a young adult struggling to find my way on so many levels. I remember being so moved by these words, that I placed a copy in the top drawer of my desk at work, making Rilke’s invitation easy to access. Through several job and career transitions over the next 25 years the copy remained in the top drawer of my desk and the feeling of deep calm every time I saw the quote on paper, worn from hundreds of handlings and readings, never lessened.

KNOW

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”

― Rainer Maria Rilke

DO

I will read and be with the Rilke quote today as I reflect on the compelling questions that have my attention at this time in my life. Then re-read the entry on being patient!
